Betty Lynn Pittman Hobgood, age 76, died on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on July 23, 1940 in Hale County, Texas to Cranford Henry and Dixie (Moore) Pittman.
Betty grew up near Petersburg and graduated from Petersburg High School. She married Charles Hobgood on February 14, 1959. She worked for Abernathy ISD in the library for many years. After moving to Happy in 1982, she worked at Happy Grain and then in the Swisher County Treasurer's Office in Tulia. She continued working for Swisher County as the Swisher...

Betty Lynn Pittman Hobgood, age 76, died on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on July 23, 1940 in Hale County, Texas to Cranford Henry and Dixie (Moore) Pittman.
Betty grew up near Petersburg and graduated from Petersburg High School. She married Charles Hobgood on February 14, 1959. She worked for Abernathy ISD in the library for many years. After moving to Happy in 1982, she worked at Happy Grain and then in the Swisher County Treasurer's Office in Tulia. She continued working for Swisher County as the Swisher County Librarian and retired in 2010.
For the last 20 years Betty lived and loved life with Clyde Hancock. Betty loved to travel; one of her favorite trips was when she took her family on a dream vacation to New York City in 2013. Betty and Clyde also had many adventures across the United States and abroad. She loved that Clyde tried to trade her for a camel in Egypt!
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Billy Pittman, sister Sammie Jo Cagle, son Jason Hobgood, grandchildren Lacy Hobgood and Jacob Hobgood and Clyde Hancock. Betty is survived by her daughters, Gay Lynn Hobgood and Jorene Hobgood Vollmer, Phillip Vollmer, grandchildren Amber Nicole Baade, Julie Michelle Whorton, Clint Everett Whorton and Justin Vollmer. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
A graveside memorial to celebrate Betty's life will be held at Memory Gardens of Amarillo at a later date. We will greatly miss our shiny, red-headed firecracker. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Swisher County Library, 127 SW 2nd Street, Tulia, TX 79088.
