Our Beloved Mother, Janet N. Burleigh was born on May 9, 1933 in Quincy, Massachusetts and passed away peacefully on October 10, 2016. She was a wonderful mother who loved life and lived it well. Janet chose to join the U.S. Air Force in 1952 with several duty assignments in the U.S. and Japan. It was during one of her assignments she met and married her First Sergeant Curtis W. Our Beloved Mother, Janet N. Burleigh was born on May 9, 1933 in Quincy, Massachusetts and passed away peacefully on October 10, 2016. She was a wonderful mother who loved life and lived it well. Janet chose to join the U.S. Air Force in 1952 with several duty assignments in the U.S. and Japan. It was during one of her assignments she met and married her First Sergeant Curtis W. Burleigh the love of her life, Janet and Curtis celebrated 61 years together August 21, 2016. Janet followed her husband on duty assignments to Southern Florida, Southern California, Alaska, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Okinawa, all the while she worked and continued to advance her civil service career. With her husband's retiring officially after 32 years of dedicated service as a CMSgt. at Luke AFB, Arizona. She ultimately accepted a Senior Position at Kelly AFB moving to San Antonio in 1978. After 20 years of dedicated civil service she retired in 1988 and opened First Class Travel. She was a proud member for over 20 years of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as the Business Professional Women's organization. She enjoyed many leisure activities including membership with a local vintage Thunderbird club. Janet and Curtis traveled extensively throughout the world. Her favorite trips were the many cruises to exotic destinations as well as the many exciting trips to Las Vegas. Janet revered and adored her family time with her children and grandchildren. She always showed a quiet but sincere kindness to people and animals.
Janet will be greatly missed! She is preceded in death by her loving husband Curtis W. Burleigh. Janet Burleigh is survived by; two sons: Stewart and wife Catherine Burleigh of Corpus Christi, David Burleigh of San Antonio and daughter: Kathryn Burleigh of Houston. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Catherine Hall, Christopher and wife Michelle Burleigh, Matthew Burleigh, Samantha and husband Nestor Albalos III, and Sarah Burleigh as well as other beloved family and friends. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday October 18, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday October 19, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment services will follow, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m with Military Honors.
