Tomie "Tonie" Nishida Wooten, age 86, passed into God's hands on June 15, 2017, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, Texas. The beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful friend was born March 4, 1931, in Matsuyama City, Japan to Yoshiharu (father) and Teru (mother) Nishida.

Tomie met and married the love of her life, J. C. Wooten, while he served in the U. S. Air Force in Japan. J. C. brought Tomie to the United States. She studied the required English and history courses to obtain her U. S. citizenship and spent the next 62 years taking care of her husband and 4 children.

Tomie is survived by her husband, J.C.; her four children: Carolyn Giddens, Judy Wooten, John Wooten, and Joanne Whitright; seven grandchildren: Jessica Chamberlain, Jason Giddens, Jake Rogers, Jennifer Sartor, Emily Morris, Aaron Whitright, and Dallas Whitright; and six great grandchildren: Makayla Chamberlain, Joshua Giddens, Andrew Chamberlain, Gabriel Giddens, Talula Giddens, and Gavyn Morris; and her many relatives still residing in Japan.

Tomie is remembered by many for her green thumb, which was evident in the many flower beds she maintained in her yard. She was generous with her gardening advice and offered clippings to add her flowers to neighbors' gardens. She handcrafted beautiful Christmas stockings for friends and family, created stunning Japanese dolls for display in glass cases, made unique three-dimensional Japanese pictures with silk fabric, and needle punched beautiful pictures.
